Induction vs. Gas: What San Mateo Homeowners Should Know

Induction cooktops heat the pan directly with a magnetic field. They boil water faster than gas, give precise low-temperature control, and the surface around the pan stays relatively cool, which helps families with young children.

Peninsula Clean Energy and BayREN have offered programs that help residents move to all-electric kitchens. Before you remodel, check your electrical panel: most induction ranges need a dedicated 240V circuit.

Visit our showroom to try induction cooking side by side with gas, and bring a pan to test it with a magnet.

How to Measure for a New Refrigerator

Measure the width, height and depth of the opening at several points, because older cabinets are rarely perfectly square. Leave about 1" above and behind the refrigerator for airflow.

Then measure the delivery path: front door, hallways and the kitchen entry. Many homes on the Peninsula have narrow interior doors, so we sometimes remove the refrigerator doors to bring the unit in.

Counter-depth models give a built-in look. Standard-depth models give more capacity for the price. Our team is happy to do a quick measurement check before your delivery.

Heat Pump AC: Staying Cool During Peninsula Heat Waves

Most homes in San Mateo County were built without air conditioning, but recent heat waves have changed that. Ductless mini-split heat pumps cool in summer and heat efficiently in winter, without ductwork.

For a single room, a window or portable inverter unit is often enough. For a whole home, a multi-zone mini-split gives quiet, room-by-room control.
